Glass ‘Enterprise Edition’ name appears on Google support page, suggests accessory lineup coming

When Google Glass was first announced back in 2013, it was only available to a limited number of “Explorers” at the hefty price of $1500 USD.

After opening up Google Glass sales to the general public in the second half of 2014, the company abruptly stopped producing the wearable in January 2015, though at the time Google said it was still committed to developing the platform.

We have written since about the rumoured Google Glass Enterprise Edition, but without an official announcement, it was hard to say anything conclusive about the project. Apart from a FCC filling and a leaked version of Glass on eBay, very little else has leaked on Google’s plans for Glass.

A new listing has appeared on Google’s Glass site that confirms a new version of the wearable is en route. A support page on Google reveals the Enterprise Edition Glass is real and also come with a battery pack accessory, and potentially other accessories to make the eyewear more productive.

Google notes, “Glass and the Enterprise Edition Wearable Battery Pack each contain a lithium–ion battery. Puncturing, incinerating, deforming, bending, heating, modifying, attempting to insert foreign objects into these batteries, shorting the contacts, trying to disassemble, or exposing the batteries to water or extreme temperatures (below -10°C (14°F) or above 60°C (140°F) for storage or use and below 0°C (32°F) or above 45°C (113°F) while charging), may damage the battery which may result in explosion, fire and injury or property damage. Do not attempt to replace the Glass battery or the battery in the Enterprise Edition Wearable Battery Pack yourself.”

Unfortunately, there is no indication yet to a release date. However, previous rumours stated the Enterprise Edition will have 5 GHz wireless connectivity for video streaming and also be powered by an Intel Atom processor.
