Days after the company relinquishes a top executive to the digital health startup League, Sun Life Financial has expanded its own reach into the digital health space.
Sun Life Financial announced on Thursday the launch of its Digital Health Solutions segment that will help Canadians access the latest innovations in digital health.
Digital Health Solutions will attempt to help Canadians find new ways of accessing healthcare services, make health choices to support wellness goals and better manage chronic conditions with advanced technology and insights.
“We’re excited about launching this new business area to expand our extensive network of health care providers and digital capabilities to make it easier for Canadians to manage their health,” said Kevin Dougherty, the president Sun Life Financial Canada, in a statement.
“This new business area will connect Sun Life with technology start-ups and health care innovators to fast track the development of new digital ideas in the health space to engage and help Canadians.”
Chris Denys, a senior vice president at Sun Life will lead Digital Health Solutions after holding numerous senior roles with the company. This announcement comes just weeks after Sun Life announced its partnership with the innovation hub MaRS and almost a year after the company introduced its Digital Benefits Assistant.
Sun Life has also gone on to acquire digital health startups such as Buffet and Company, which is how its recently departed employee Lori Casselman joined the company. Casselman revealed this past week that she would leave Sun Life to further her digital health career with the Canadian startup League.
“This new business area represents another significant step that Sun Life is taking to advance the company’s digital innovation strategy to support the well-being of Canadians,” said Denys in a statement.
“It’s a great fit with our recently announced partnership with MaRS, North America’s largest urban innovation hub, and our development of Digital Benefits Assistant, which uses advanced analytics technology to provide the right solutions at the right time to Canadians through the channel of their choice.”
Digital Health Solutions will expand on the Digital Health Assistant’s capabilities to help them make more informed health decisions.
