Rick and Morty co-creator creates VR video game Studio ‘Squanchtendo’

Yes, that really is the studio’s name.

Squantendo is a new VR focused video game studio from Rick and Morty’s co-creator Justin Roiland and former Epic Games producer Tanya Watson. The goal of the studio is to reportedly “[combine] edgy, mature comedy with refined high-end gameplay mechanics and stories.”

squenchtendo-1 The studio won’t, however, be taking over development of Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-ality, a VR title announced back in July. The game will continue to be developed by Owlchemy Labs with Roiland’s Squanchtendo focusing on developing new original properties.

The new VR studio plans to reveal its first title at PAX next week. Roiland voices both Rick and Morty on his television show. He’s also voice-acted for a number of games, including HTC Vive VR titles The Lab and Hover Junkers.

Watson spent 10 years at Epic Games and worked as an associate and executive products on Unreal Tournament 3, Gears of War 2 and Bulletstorm.

Earlier this year, Roiland discussed his interest in VR and launching his own virtual reality focused studio in a variety of tweets.
