Rogers Radio announces new show in partnership with music-identification app Shazam

Facing stiff competition from the likes of Google and Microsoft — in the form of Now and Bing, respectively — music identification app Shazam’s best path forward might be to diversify, and its recent entries into the entertainment vertical show it’s doing just that.

Earlier this month, news surfaced that Fox plans to produce a game show based on the app called ‘Beat Shazam.’ Rogers announced it’s collaborating with the music identification app to create a daily show titled ‘The Shazam @ 7 Countdown.’

The show will air at 7 p.m. local time on Toronto’s KISS 92.5, Edmonton’s 91.7 THE BOUNCE and Vancouver’s KiSS RADIO, highlighting the top seven songs of the day. This list is comprised of both recently Shazam’d songs and trending songs from around the country, based on what the press release describes as ‘unique, targeted data’ from the individual markets.

The show will also be available on each of the stations’ websites and apps.

“We’re always striving to deliver innovative and engaging experiences and opportunities for both our listeners and our clients, and this partnership with Shazam checks every box,” said Julie Adam, senior vice-president of radio at Rogers in the release, adding, “There are definitely more exciting announcements to come as this partnership continues to evolve.”
