Apple’s Twitter account has come to life for the first time

Apple first joined Twitter in 2011, but it in the five years since that day the company had yet to issue its first tweet, and has been for some time a mere unverified egg. That all changed this week.

Just a few days ahead of Apple’s iPhone unveiling event on September 7th, Apple is now verified and has a logo for a profile picture, as well as the bokeh-effect picture from its unveiling invitation for a header. With rumours circulating that Apple may use the account to live tweet the unveiling, its followers jumped from around 52,000 on the morning of September 1st to about over 205,000 late afternoon of September 2nd.

Apple already operates several other branded Twitter accounts, including @AppleSupport (set up earlier in 2016), @AppleMusic, @AppleNews and @AppStore.
