BlackBerry to provide secure Samsung tablets to the German government

BlackBerry

BlackBerry’s software outlook hasn’t been so sunny in the last few years, with its BB10 operating system mostly unused by consumers, and with less than stellar hardware sales.

However, there is still some interest in the secure communications aspect of BlackBerry technology, and certain enterprise businesses and government departments still rely heavily on the hardware. Still, the company continues to court new clients.

At the end of last week, at the IFA Berlin conference, BlackBerry announced that its SecuTABLET, based on the latest Samsung Galaxy Tab S2, will be used by government agencies in Germany. The device was approved for use by the German Federal Office for Information Security for classified documents, becoming the latest mobile device from BlackBerry to fulfill the strict guidelines the German government sets for secure communications.

The SecuTABLET uses a security card to encrypt mobile data and the information contained on the tablet itself, and the device uses integrated Certificate Management software to provide secure VPN and data communication. Between the Samsung Knox security platform and BlackBerry’s secure technologies, the platform aims to be one of the most secure mobile communication devices in the world.
