Encarnacion’s walk-off homer for the Blue Jays unleashed 3,300 tweets per minute

Toronto is in love with Blue Jays first baseman and designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion.

Following his walk-off homer in the 11th inning of the tense wild-card game between the Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles, Twitter Canada states that a flurry of tweets was set off, with fans sending approximately 3,300 tweets a minute praising Encarnacion.

In total, Encarnacion received 2.5 times the Twitter mentions of Bautista, Stroman, Osuna and Donaldson combined.

The dramatic October 4th win clinched a spot for Jays in the American League Division Series, and spurred a social media buzz that Twitter Canada says had not been felt since “the #BatFlip of 2015.”

All in all, around 290,000 Tweets were shared during last night’s game.

Update 10/5/16: Twitter Canada initially stated 3,300 tweets per second but has amended that statistic to “per minute.” Apologies for the confusion!
