Samsung is working with Health Canada to resolve Note 7 issue

Following a week in which five separate cases of Galaxy Note 7 devices catching on fire were reported in the U.S., Samsung is once again asking consumers to shut off and return the beleaguered device — likely for good this time. Here in Canada, the Canadian outpost of South Korean electronics giant says it’s working with Health Canada to resolve the issue, which likely means a domestic recall is imminent.

“At Samsung Canada we remain committed to working with Health Canada, carriers and our retail partners to take all necessary steps to resolve the situation. Canadian consumers with either an original Galaxy Note7 or replacement Galaxy Note7 device should power down and stop using the device,” said Samsung Canada in a statement sent to MobileSyrup this morning. “Details of the remedies available for Note7 customers, which will include a refund for the device, will be announced shortly.  For more information, Canadian consumers should contact 1-800-SAMSUNG.”

Given that this situation is likely to evolve quickly, we’ll use this article to provide any updates that come from Samsung, Health Canada or one of the carriers. Stay tuned.
