Android 7.1 Developer Preview now available, delivers Pixel features to Nexus devices

The developer preview of Android Nougat 7.1 has been released for the Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P and Pixel C, bringing with it several features that can currently only be found on Google’s shiny new Pixel devices.

The updates include circular app icons, Daydream VR support and app shortcuts, which lets developers create shortcuts that will take users straight to a specific action within their app.

The beta also brings with it image keyboard support, which lets users input images and other content directly from the keyboard.

Those hoping for Google Assistant or the Pixel Launcher are out of luck, however. Those features, along with several others, will remain exclusive to the Pixel for the time being, and may never make their way to stock Android.

The preview is set to expand availability to enrolled Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 users before the public release of 7.1.x in December 2016.

For those who would like to test out the developing software, Android Beta Program enrollment is available here.
