Zelda: Breath of the Wild might not release alongside the Nintendo Switch

Just when things were looking up for Nintendo, it’s possible the Japanese gaming giant’s next video game console could end up being the victim of bad timing.

According to recent reports, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the next entry in the iconic and influential Zelda franchise, will not launch alongside the Switch in March as many expected.

Nintendo insider Emily Rogers recently revealed that the game’s localization is going to take more work than the company initially expected and that the title will not launch alongside the Switch’s speculated release March release date. This report has since been independently corroborated by Eurogamer.

Since Breath of the Wild is arguably one of Nintendo’s most ambitious titles in years, with it featuring multiple questlines, NPCs, items and a massive open world, it makes sense that the title would take longer than most Japanese developed titles to localize for the North American market.

There is a silver lining to this rumour, though; it looks like a new Mario title will be the Switch’s banner launch title instead. Nintendo’s Switch is set to be a home console-handheld hybrid device and is rumoured to be priced at approximately $330 CAD.
