Twitter teams up with the CFL to make the 104th Grey Cup extra social with a custom emoji

As many Canadians are busy getting winter tires put on their cars and making sure heating systems are on and working properly, the end of the CFL season is also quickly approaching.

The Grey Cup is one of the biggest Canadian sporting events each year, and Twitter Canada is partnering with the CFL again this fall to get three-down football fans pumped for the big game.

The Grey Cup is being held in Toronto this year, and for the first time, the hashtags #GreyCup and #CoupeGrey will display custom emoji when discussing the game on Twitter. The two teams that make it to the finals will be able to see inspirational messages from fans on panels in the hallways between the locker rooms and the field during Grey Cup week in real-time.

Starting at 8 PM Eastern on Sunday, November 20th, fans will have 24 hours to use the hashtags #GoodLuckStamps, #GoodLuckLions, #GoodLuckEsks, and #GoodLuckRNation to have those cheers show up for the teams that make it to the Grey Cup.

There will also be a #GCTweetUp fan party in Toronto on the Saturday before the final game, featuring top CFL players and the Grey Cup itself. Twitter has also provided a ‘Twitter mirror’ to each team so they can show exclusive pictures and video leading up to the game.

The 104th Grey Cup is set to take place on Sunday, November 27th, at the BMO Field in Toronto.
