LG G6 will feature a 5.7-inch, nearly bezel-less display

LG’s upcoming flagship will feature an extra tall display with significantly slimmed down bezels, LG Display stated in an interview with The Korea Herald.

In one of the first confirmed pieces of information regarding the new device, the company (which is technically independent, but closely connected with LG) revealed that the smartphone would have a 5.7-inch 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution LCD panel with a ratio of 18:9 aspect ratio — two steps above the industry average of 16:9 and even coming in a step above the notably large Xiaomi Mi Mix. LG Display has dubbed its new panel QHD+.

The company also promises better touch performance with a proprietary technology called in-Touch that embeds the touch sensor inside the LCD cell. Additionally, the technology does not require touch cover glass, which leads to a slimmer panel in the G6 (1mm) and a bezel that runs 0.2mm on the sides and 0.54mm on the bottom, reducing bezels by a respective 10 percent and 20 percent over last year’s model.

LG Display further noted transmittance has increased by 10 percent to improve its legibility in direct sunlight and made the display 30 percent more power efficient.

Finally, the company confirmed to The Korea Herald that the device is scheduled to be unveiled next month, likely on February 26th, the day before Mobile World Congress opens in Barcelona, Spain.

Update 01/12/17: LG has officially confirmed that the G6 will be unveiled at MWC in Barcelona on February 27th.
