Microsoft bringing Cortana to Android lock screens in upcoming update

Microsoft’s digital assistant Cortana is coming to Android lock screens, a new beta update reveals.

Following a design update that brought with it a minimal new look, Microsoft rolled out an update for its Cortana beta testers on Android that requests users enable ‘Cortana on lock screen.’ Enabling the option adds a Cortana logo to the user’s lock screen which can be swiped left or right to open a Cortana panel. In the panel, users are then able to receive updates from the AI and ask it questions.

Additionally, users with pre-existing custom lock screens don’t have to worry about Cortana replacing them, though there should be some consideration of privacy loss when Cortana on lock screen is enabled.

While a release of the new feature is expected to roll out within a few weeks, those curious to try it out immediately can sign up to become a Cortana for Android beta tester here.
