Samsung’s ongoing Note 7 saga seems like it’s set to continue.

Korean publication Hankyung is reporting that Samsung could be preparing to sell “refurbished” versions of the Note 7 featuring smaller batteries, solving the power source overheating issues the original smartphone suffered from.

These devices, however, won’t be coming to the U.S., European or Canadian market, likely due to the fact that regulators won’t reverse bans on the smartphone following the device’s two recalls. Instead, Samsung’s refurbished Note 7 will be sold in emerging markets like India and Vietnam.

Samsung reportedly has 2.5 million Galaxy Note 7s left over after testing 20,000 devices in order to determine the problem with the device. Rumours indicate the new devices will feature a new case and battery with a capacity between 3,000 and 3,200mAh. To put this in perspective, the Note 7 initially launched with a 3,500mAh battery.

According to Samsung Canada, 95 percent of all Note 7s have been returned in the Canadian market.

Update – February 22: The news of Samsung coming back to market with a refurbished Note 7 has been debunked. In a statement from a Samsung representative in India, Samsung confirmed that “The report on Samsung planning to sell refurbished Galaxy Note 7 smartphone[s] in India is incorrect.”
