Prominent security researcherĀ Jonathan Zdziarski has announced that he’s accepted a position with Apple’s security engineering and architecture team.

Zdziarski is known as NerveGas in the hacking community and provided expertise during Apple’s run-in with the FBI regarding the San Bernardino shooter’s phone. Furthermore, in 2014 he pointed out an important backdoor in iOS devices.

He didn’t go into detail about what his role with Apple would entail, but he did say on his personal blog that his decision was motivated by his passion to protect online privacy.

“Iā€™m pleased to announce that Iā€™ve accepted a position with Appleā€™s Security Engineering and Architecture team, and am very excited to be working with a group of like minded individuals so passionate about protecting the security and privacy of others.

This decision marks the conclusion of what I feel has been a matter of conscience for me over time. Privacy is sacred; our digital lives can reveal so much about us ā€“ our interests, our deepest thoughts, and even who we love. I am thrilled to be working with such an exceptional group of people who share a passion to protect that,” wrote Zdziarski on his website.Ā

It’s interesting to note that since making the announcement,Ā Zdziarski has taken down his Twitter account.
