Microsoft builds on Cloud success with launch of Azure Cosmos DB

azure cloud build 2017 keynote

After reporting strong performance from its Cloud products in its most recent quarterly earnings, Microsoft has announced Azure Cosmos DB, a globally distributed, multi-model database service with guaranteed uptime, throughput, consistency and single-digit millisecond latency at the 99th percentile.

The database is schema-free, meaning users can enter data without first defining a structure.

Microsoft notes that the database service is built to power planet-scale cloud services and data-intensive applications, such as IoT, AI and mobile, with support for every type of data. This includes, notes the company, Graph Query Language.

The announcement comes during the first day of Microsoft’s 2017 Build developer conference, during which the company also announced it was adding extensions to the Microsoft Graph to combine insights from the world of work with device insights and contextual awareness of the physical world.
