Asus is reportedly done with Android Wear

ZenWatch 3

Asus plans to discontinue development and production of its ZenWatch lineup of Android Wear smartwatches, according to a report from Digitimes.

Citing sources within the company’s Taiwanese supply chain, the publication says Asus is only shipping 5,000 to 6,000 ZenWatch units a month.

If the report is accurate, Asus will be the third major OEM to abandon Google’s smartwatch operating system following Motorola and Samsung. In 2016, Motorola announced it had put the development of the Moto 360 on an indefinite hold, while Samsung said it planned to focus on wearables running its own Tizen operating system.

We’ve reached out to Asus for comment. We’ll update this article when we hear back from the company.
