Minister Bains to speak on improving telco affordability at Canadian Telecom Summit

The Government of Canada announced today that Navdeep Bains, the federal Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, will be on-hand at the Canadian Telecom Summit, set to start on Monday, June 5th, to announce new initiatives the Trudeau government plans to take to make telecom service more affordable in Canada.

Based on the content of the federal government’s press release, it doesn’t appear Bains will announce new legislation. “Minister Bains will talk about how the Government of Canada is ensuring that telecommunications services for Canadians are more affordable, accessible and of higher quality,” says the government’s release.

Whatever the case, check back at MobileSyrup on Monday to find out what plans, if any, the federal government has to make wireless services more affordable in Canada.
