Spotify celebrates Canada’s 150th with Canadian themed playlists

In celebration of Canada 150, music streaming service Spotify has created 16 Canadian-focused playlists.

The first two playlists are not artist specific. There’s ‘Big in Canada,’ which features songs that are played often within Canada, as well as ‘Canadian Exports,’ which includes songs that get a lot of airtime outside of Canada.

Spotify has also included six playlists that are genre-specific, such as ‘Canadian ’90s,’ ‘Canadian Pop,’ Quebecois rap and ‘Canadian R&B.’ The ‘Je me souviens’ playlist — the phrase found on all Quebecois licence plates — features classic Quebec favourites like Celine Dion, while the Northern Bars playlist includes Canadian rappers like Belly, Speng Squire and Derek Wise.

The following eight playlists are a little different than the previous ones. These playlists feature the favourite songs of notable Canadian artists. Tegan and Sara share their playlist of favourite Canadian female-identifying artists and add their own commentary throughout the playlist.

While 21-year-old Ruth B shares the Canadian songs that influenced her the most. Candian artists Metric, Ashley Callingbull, Kardinal Offishall, Walk Off The Earth, Charlotte Cardin and Hannah Simone also share their favourite Canadian songs within their playlists.
