Thirty different content creators and entertainment companies have announced a collaboration to fight piracy. The coalition is called the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) and includes the likes of Amazon, Netflix, HBO and Twentieth Century Fox, among other companies.

According to a press release, the ACE will work alongside the Motion Picture Association of America and law enforcement agencies into the research and implementation of anti-piracy initiatives

The ACE says that piracy websites have seen a massive 21.4 billion visits. A major example of piracy most recently came from, ironically enough, the latest Pirates of the Caribbean film, Dead Men Tell No Tales. A hacker group managed to acquire the movie in advance of its May 11th release and demanded Disney pay a ransom, lest the movie be leaked online. A similar situation occurred with the most recent season of Orange is the New Black on Netflix.

In Canada, a recent study suggests that out of seven percent of homes who use “free TV” Android TV boxes, the majority of users used the devices to stream pirated content.

As of now, it’s unclear which possible strategies the ACE may use to combat piracy.
