Apple TV 4K pre-orders now live, pricing starts at $229 CAD

Apple has formally announced the successor to 2015’s fourth-generation Apple TV.

Dubbed the ‘Apple TV 4K,’ the device is a significant internal hardware upgrade over its predecessor, now featuring a three-core A10X Fusion processor. However, externally, the device looks no different than the fourth-gen Apple TV.

The Apple TV 4K runs the latest version of tvOS 4.

The device also streams at a native resolution of 2160p, and supports both HDR10 and Dolby Vision HDR.

The Cupertino computing giant also announced that users would be able to stream HDR content from Netflix, with support for Amazon Prime Video “coming soon.” The Apple TV 4K also supports 4K content from the aforementioned streaming services.

Apple’s Senior Vice President of Internet Software and Services, Eddy Cue, showed an image suggesting that CBC and CraveTV apps will be coming to Apple TV in Canada.

Apple TV 4K will be available for pre-order on September 15th, 2017 and will be available for purchase on September 22nd, 2017.

Update – September 15th: Apple has gone live with Apple TV 4K pre-orders in Canada. As expected, the 32GB Apple TV 4K costs $229 CAD and the 64GB model costs $249 CAD.
