Can’t find a SNES Classic? Here’s an expensive Super Nintendo clone, the Super Nt

Analogue Super NT

If you’re one of the many people out there frustrated with Nintendo’s seemingly intentional stock shortages surrounding not only its popular Switch console, but also the NES and SNES Classic, you may be pleased to know that there are other retro gaming options out there.

Unfortunately, however, Analogue’s sleek-looking Super Nt is rather expensive, coming in at $190 USD with the device available for pre-order right now (which amounts to about $237 CAD) — and this doesn’t even include a controller. The plug-and-play system is the follow-up to the original Analogue Nt, a clone of the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES).

Analogue Nt

Similar to the Analogue Nt, the Super Nt connects to your television via a HDMI port and features a custom chip capable of rendering the 16-bit graphics you fondly remember in all their pixelated glory, without lag and in true 1080p, according to the system’s manufacturer. Unlike the SNES Classic though, the Analogue Nt requires original cartridges and doesn’t come pre-installed with games. If you’re on the hunt for particularly rare or expensive SNES titles, this quickly becomes a pricey proposition.

The main change between the Analogue Nt and the Super Nt, is the fact that Analogue’s new system offers two different versions that share aesthetic design similarities with the classic U.S. Super Nintendo, as well as the Japanese version. This makes sense given the reimagined retro console is capable of playing both Japanese and American games.

8bit-do

Even the Super Nintendo’s original proprietary controllers ports have carried over, allowing users to connect classic SNES gamepads to the system. Analogue has once again partnered with retro accessory manufacturer 8Bitdo to create four SN30 wireless controllers that match the design of the classic SNES gamepad, which each remote coming in at an additional $50.

It’s unclear when the Super Nt is set to officially launch, but pre-orders are available now.
