Unlocked iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus now available at Staples through credit payment plan

The unlocked iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are now available at Staples Canada through a 24-month Equal Payment Plan, as well as purchased outright.

While higher tier pricing plans remain unclear, Staples says that its 24-month Equal Payment Plan starts at $44.38 CAD per month, though this fee doesn’t include tax and applicable eco fees. Outright, the iPhone 8 starts at $929, while the iPhone 8 Plus costs $1,059.

“Buying an unlocked iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus gives you the freedom to purchase the iPhone of your choice with the flexibility of being able to choose your own carrier and the benefit of not being locked into a carrier contract,” said Jot Toor, senior vice president of merchandising, Staples. “We are excited to be bringing the new generation of iPhone to our customers with the added convenience of having it unlocked.”

Staples says that the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus will only be available at select Staples locations in-store and also via Staples.ca. In the U.S. Apple offers various financing options for its devices, both on the consumer and enterprise level, though the company has not launched any of these programs in Canada.

It’s interesting Apple has opted to partner with Staples for what seems to be the first officially available iPhone financing option in the Canadian market that’s not offered on-contract by a carrier. It’s unclear if Apple also plans to offer iPhone X financing options through Staples, though given the phone’s $1,319 CAD price tag, it would make sense.

Apple also recently announced a partnership with Canadian enterprise solutions company Compugen, including a wide range of the company’s devices.
