Samsung now allows users to completely disable the Bixby button

Hello Bixby screen on the S8+

The dedicated Bixby button found on the latest Samsung smartphones has proven to be very unwanted by some users. Many would like to disable the button or have the ability to remap it, while Samsung wants its users to keep the button dedicated to its Bixby digital assistant.

The previous update to the Bixby button gave users the option to not open Bixby Home after pressing the button. The Bixby button was still activated and worked similarly to the power button, though.

This latest update will completely disable the button, and will essentially make it so the button no longer worked.

The update also makes changes to Bixby’s services that analyze saved contacts when a call command is made, according to SamMobile.

To get the Bixby updates, open Galaxy Apps on the Galaxy S8, S8+ or Note 8. Next, tap the three-dot menu button on the top right corner, tap ‘My Apps,’ followed by ‘Update’ and lastly, press the ‘Update All’ button.

In case that doesn’t work, there is a downloadable APK  from APK Mirror, for the Bixby, Bixby Home/Hello Bixby and Bixby Service apps. APK Mirror is peered reviewed and likely the best place to get APKs, however, as always, download at your own risk.
