Pixel 2 XL unresponsive edge issue will be fixed with an OTA update

Pixel 2 XL

New reports indicate that the Pixel 2 XL is experiencing yet another issue with its display.

A thread posted in the Pixel User Community forum suggests the Pixel 2 XL suffers from dead spots near the edges of its screen. Another user posted a video showing off the unresponsiveness of the edges — the edges seem to recognize swipes, but not taps.

The screen issue is occurring because of the smartphone’s accidental touch protection feature, according to Android Police.

With the problem stemming from the accidental touch protection functionality being too sensitive on the display, this means the issue is software related and not a hardware concern. A Google forum Community Manager replied to a thread stating that Google is investigating the problem and will release an over-the-air fix in the near future.

Many other issues with the Pixel 2 XL’s display have been reported, including premature screen burn-in and a bluish tint. Additionally, the device suffers from a clicking noise, random reboots, connectivity issues and a screeching sound when playing back a video recording.

For those who may have been initially interested in the Pixel 2 XL but are now considering buying another handset, here’s a roundup of viable smartphone alternatives.
