Facebook Messenger rolls out 4K photo sharing

Facebook

Facebook has added a new feature to its services that allows users to send and receive photos in at 4K resolution, or up to 4,096 x 4,069 pixels per image.

Facebook says that this is”the highest quality many smartphones support,” however it’s rare for a smartphone to have a 4K display, as one of the only devices that supports 4K is the Sony Z5 Premium.

Pictures should, however, look sharper and clearer even if your specific device doesn’t support 4K. Facebook promises that pictures will be sent just as quickly as before, even at a higher resolution.

To send 4K images, your Messenger app has to be updated to the latest version. Once you’ve completed the update, open a conversation and tap the camera roll icon. Afterwards, select the photo, tap and send the photo and the receiver will get a high resolution image.

Starting now, this feature is available in Canada on iPhone and Android.
