Qualcomm shows off ARM-based Windows 10 PCs Asus NovaGo and HP Envy x2

Qualcomm has revealed new ‘always-connected’ ARM-based laptops produced with its Snapdragon 835 chipset in partnership with partners HP and Asus.

The laptops boast week-long battery life and constant LTE connectivity. Both eschew a hibernation mode, and instead enter a low-power state when the lid is closed.

Qualcomm and Microsoft’s Snapdragon for Windows is not the first time an attempt’s been made at making ARM-based PCs work; Windows RT was an ultimately unsuccessful attempt that was poorly received due to battery life and system restrictions.

Both devices come with Windows 10 S, Microsoft’s new education-focused OS variant that only operates Windows Store apps. The laptops can be upgraded to the full Windows operating system, however.

The Asus NovaGo is expected to debut ‘early next year’ at $599 USD, while HP says the pricing for its device will arrive in the spring.
