Samsung ‘unlikely’ to unveil Galaxy S9 at CES, says new report

After numerous reports earlier this year made it seem like Samsung planned to give its fans an early peek at the Galaxy S9, it now appears we won’t get to see the company’s 2018 flagship at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES).

In a statement to the Korean Herald, a Samsung representative said “it is unlikely” that the company will unveil the Galaxy S9 at the annual tech show, which is officially slated to start on January 9th, 2018.

That said, the wording of the statement is unusual in that it implies Samsung hasn’t made a final decision on the matter just yet.

Prior to the Galaxy S8, Samsung used to unveil its ‘S’ series flagships at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. Depending on the particular year, the annual conference has usually started during the last week of February. Even with an early unveiling, the S9 was still expected to go on sale sometime in March.

According to a recent report from Evan Blass, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ will be iterative updates on the company’s crop of high-end smartphones. The most notable updates are Qualcomm’s just-announced Snapdragon 845 chipset and a fingerprint sensor that is vertically aligned with the camera module.
