Jony Ive is once again managing Apple’s design teams

Jony Ive's ghost in the shell

Jony Ive, Apple’s chief design officer, is once again responsible for day-to-day management duties of the company’s product design teams, according to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman and Alex Webb.

“With the completion of Apple Park, Apple’s design leaders and teams are again reporting directly to Jony Ive, who remains focused purely on design,” said Amy Bessette, a company spokesperson, in a statement issued to Bloomberg.

Ive had relinquished some of his management duties in 2015 — he was named chief design officer at the time– to executives Alan Dye and Richard Howarth. Moving forward, both Dye and Howarth, as well as Apple’s software and hardware design teams, will now report directly to Ive.

Whether any of that means will hear more than just Ive’s disembodied voice during future Apple keynotes remains to be seen.
