Instagram launches ‘Focus’ feature for improved portrait mode

Instagram app iOS

Instagram is making it easier for users to capture themselves or others in portrait mode with the launch of the new ‘Focus’ feature.

When opening the camera, users will see the ‘Focus’ option next to ‘Superzoom’ under the record button. With Focus, the person in the shot will remain in focus while the background softly blurs, allowing them to better stand out.

Afterwards, as with any regular photo or video, users can add the filters, stickers or texts and post to either Instagram Direct or their Instagram story.

Focus is available on iPhone models SE and up, as well as select Android devices.

Instagram is also rolling out the @mention sticker on iOS, allowing users to type the name of an account person to allow users to jump to that person or page. The sticker can then be rotated, scaled and placed anywhere in the story.

The new features are available as part of Instagram version 39.0 on Android and iOS.
