OnePlus CEO shares OnePlus 6 camera samples

OnePlus co-founder Pete Lau has shared the first official camera samples from his company’s upcoming smartphone, the OnePlus 6.

Lau shared the images over on his Weibo account.

Unfortunately, they don’t tell us too much about the capabilities of the OnePlus 6’s camera, as the executive shot the images during the day while on a visit to Stanford University. Almost every high-end smartphone released in the last couple of years can handle well-lit scenes like the one Lau put the OP6 through with ease. OnePlus also stripped each photo of its EXIF data, so there’s no new information to be gleaned on details like lens aperture.

That said, the shots where the OP6 had to use its HDR capabilities are promising. In particular, the shot below shows the OP6 doing a good job of preserving shadow detail (look the deepest recesses of the alcoved walkway) while also preventing highlight clipping (the sky is a nice blue instead of white).

We’ll have to see how the OP6 handles low-light scenes, which is an area where past OnePlus smartphones have struggled, but these shots are, at the very least, promising.

In the last month, the pace at which OnePlus has trickled out information on its next smartphone has increased significantly. Earlier this week, it became clear, thanks to a teaser directly from the company, that the OnePlus 6 will feature waterproofing.
