Best Buy Canada to sell smart TVs with Amazon’s Fire TV installed

Amazon and Best Buy are friends?

Amazon and Best Buy Canada are working together on a new television deal that will bring Amazon’s Fire TV to Insignia and Toshiba televisions.

To start off this partnership Best Buy will start selling more than 10 4K televisions at some point this summer.

Best Buy previously partnered with Roku to sell Insignia televisions with Roku TV built in, so it’s unclear if the Amazon deal will replace the Roku deal or if Best Buy will be selling two sets of competing smart TVs.

Fire TV brings a few new features to Best Buy’s smart TV lineup, including Alexa compatibility.

Alexa will provide users with hands-free television control when used with an Echo device. Since the Fire TV is baked into the televisions, Alexa will even have the ability to turn up the volume and switch inputs as well.

Fire TV also supports usual slate of streaming apps, like YouTube, Netflix and CraveTV, along with the vast amount of apps available from the Amazon Store.

“Our partnership with Amazon is exciting because we believe Fire TV Edition delivers an incredible user experience and further strengthens the growing connection between home theatre, home automation and voice control,” said Best Buy Chairman and CEO Hubert Joly in the companies April 18th press release.

MobileSyrup has reached out to Best Buy for clarification and will update this post with a comment.
