FCC filing reveals upcoming Sonos smart speaker with HDMI port

A new FCC regulatory filing has revealed a new Sonos smart speaker with the model number S14. The filing, first discovered by Variety, reports the speaker will feature HDMI ports.

The FCC filing states that the device “is a high-performance all-in-one home theatre smart speaker and part of Sonos’ home sound system.” The filing also suggests that the device features Amazon’s Alexa assistant, similar to the Sonos One smart speaker.

The inclusion of the HDMI port is odd for Sonos, as most of company’s previous speakers don’t include HDMI and only rely on optical out for digital sound.

Adding a HDMI port now means that the upcoming speaker would be capable of supporting audio formats like Dolby Atmos.

In a statement to Variety, Sonos says it has no details to share about this upcoming speaker.
