Fido launches Xtra, a weekly rewards program for postpaid customers

Fido is launching a new program offering deals and promotions to customers.

Fido’s new rewards program, called Fido Xtra, is rolling out beginning today. Customers will see the Fido MyAccount app updated over the next few days.

The program brings weekly deals and promotions right to the Fido app on your smartphone. Fido mobile and internet postpaid customers can access Xtra by logging into the Fido My Account app on their phone and tapping the banner in the app.

To see the banner, the app must be updated to version 3.2 which is compatible with iOS 9 and newer, as well as Android 4.2 and newer.

Every Thursday, customers can access a new exclusive deal in the app. Adidas, Foodora and The Body Shop are some of the brands already on board with the program. Fido has also partnered with BIXI Montréal to deliver free two-way rides every Thursday from 6pm until midnight.

Fido says it surveyed millennials to find out how excited they would be for a weekly promotion like this. According to the survey results, 86 percent of Canadian millennials would rather get a weekly gift from their carrier than watch the royal wedding.

“At Fido, we’re all about connecting our customers to the things and people they love,” said Fido Wireless vice president Nancy Audette. “We know our customers really value the little practical things that brighten their week and with the launch of Fido Xtra, we’re giving them something extra every Thursday on top of the other great services they already enjoy like Fido Roam and five extra hours of data every month. There’s never been a better time to be with Fido.”

Earlier in April, the Commission for Complaints for Telecom-television Services (CCTS) released a mid-year report that there was a 73 percent increase in complaints over the same period last year. Fido ranked sixth on the list with 341 complaints. Xtra might help to bolster goodwill towards the carrier.

The program is similar to competing carrier Virgin Mobile’s Member Benefits program, though Virgin’s is centered on continued offers from specific partners. There are recurring contests and discounts available, unlike Xtra which will be a new offer every week.
