Over 60 communities in Nova Scotia are the latest to receive high-speed internet funding from the federal government’s Connect to Innovate program.

The Canadian government is investing $17.7 million, with the remaining $8.6 million coming from the Nova Scotia Internet Funding Trust and a few other unnamed local sources.

Sixty-four different communities and around 80 institutions in the province will gain access to reliable high-speed internet.

“For rural communities in Nova Scotia, digital investment through the Connect to Innovate program enhances opportunities for residents of all ages. This important investment will support farming and fishing industries in data collection and observation, students and youth in learning, and residents in day-to-day life with connected devices,” said Scott Brison, president of the Treasury Board of Canada in a May 4th press release.

The Connect to Innovate program has spent $306.84 million of its overall $500 million funding goal.

Communities in Quebec, Alberta and Nunavut — among others — have all benefited from funding.
