Android Auto is getting some slick design changes at Google I/O 2018

We'll likely see these new updates in action at I/O

Google is set to show off some new Android Auto designs at I/O 2018, and the Mountain View search giant released a small teaser blog post about these updates.

The most interesting update are the revised visual templates.

According to a May 7th, 2018 blog post, Google is going to start making browsable content much easier to access with a new format for music albums to be displayed on the car’s screen. This new look seems a lot more intuitive and visual than the lists that previously dominated the platform.

Additionally, new media search results are being added to Android Auto. When a user asks Google Assistant to search for a song or an artist, Assistant will offer users some alternative suggestions as well. This could be really helpful if you’re looking for a song that has a common title.

These are welcome changes since browsing music on Android Auto up until now, pretty much relied on pre-built playlists or talking to Google Assistant.Android Auto will also soon receive support for group messages as well as Rich Communication Services (RCS). This is another welcome change that will bring Android Auto a step closer to CarPlay in the messaging department.

Google has plans for an Android Auto focused I/O session on May 9th, where the company will show off some of these features along with its new phoneless integration with Volvo.
