Canada’s Members of Parliament have put out a warning to Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg and COO Sheryl Sandberg that they would be found in contempt of Parliament if they ignore requests to testify in Ottawa, according to a CBC article.

The grand committee on Facebook and disinformation will be hosted by Canada’s House of Commons Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics over the course of three days in Ottawa and will bring parliamentarians from different countries around the world.

The witness list for the hearings are currently still listed as “to be determined” but invitations have been sent to Facebook, Twitter, Google, Microsoft, Amazon and Apple.

Those that are set to appear to include former Blackberry chief executive Jim Balsillie, chair of the U.S. Federal Election Commission Ellen Weintraub, and Canada’s Privacy Commissioner Daniel Therrien.

This is the second time that the grand committee will meet, the last time was in November 2018 in London, U.K. where 24 officials from Britain, Canada, France, Belgium, Brazil, Ireland, Latvia, Argentina and Singapore questioned Richard Allen, Facebook’s vice-president of policy solutions.

The ethics committee’s chair, Conservative MP Bob Zimmer, told MobileSyrup that the U.S. was invited but had not heard back.

The committee had voted to subpoena Zuckerberg and Sandberg before the meeting, which passed unanimously.

The executives have still not responded.
