New ‘dummy model’ hands-ons give us our best look at the iPhone 11 yet

iPhone X

YouTubers Dave Lee and MKBHD have released hands-on videos with dummy units of Apple’s iPhone 11 lineup, providing us our best look at Apple’s 2019 smartphones.

Accessory manufacturers use dummy models to design cases for a smartphone ahead of its official release. In the same way, it’s possible to use dummy models to extrapolate what a device will look like when it launches.

In any case, the videos provide a closer look at the new iPhone lineup’s square camera bump. As MKBHD mentions in his hands-on, both the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Max will include a new third camera, which is likely to feature an ultra-wide lens. Like with the ultra-wide cameras in other devices, the iPhone 11 and 11 Max’s new third camera will allow the phones to capture photos with a bigger field of view.

Moving to the iPhone 11R, the dummy model confirms recent reports that Apple’s entry-level smartphone will feature a square camera bump that houses dual rear cameras.

As 9to5Mac notes, one thing the videos don’t show is the new “frosted glass” design that was described by Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo at the start of the year, nor the rumoured redesigned mute switch.
