Waterloo-based startup Your Intelligent Knowledge Assistant (YourIKA) is now one of the nine startups Amazon has selected to participate in its 2019 Alexa accelerator program, reports The Record.

Amazon has partnered with Techstars, a U.S.-based accelerator, to run the program, which initially started July 15th. The program offers 10,000 mentors, 2,700 investors, 1,200 alumni companies and 180 staff members.

YourIKA received $20,000 that’ll help with expenses while they’re in the U.S. and a $100,000 seed investment.

Being part of the program gives the company access to Amazon executives and programmers. The Waterloo-based startup was selected as one of the participants out of the 1,200 applicants.

“There were more than 1,200 applicants and to be one of the nine selected is pretty special,” said Rob Henderson, one of the startup’s founders and its chief executive officer, in a phone interview with The Record.

The accelerator program has gone on for three years. YourIKA is a startup that uses AI and instant messaging to help tutor students.
