Expect more smart home devices from Ikea in the future

Swedish furniture company Ikea is cementing smart home products as its future by launching the Ikea Home Smart business unit.

While the company has been releasing smart home products for a while, this marks a new level of commitment for Ikea.

There’s no mention in the company’s blog post what precisely this means, but it seems likely we’ll soon see a lot more smart home products from Ikea.

“We have decided to invest significantly in Home Smart across Ikea to fast-forward the development. This is the biggest New Business we are establishing since the introduction of Children’s Ikea,” says Peter van der Poel, the manager of Ikea’s range and supply.

Currently, Ikea offers a selection of smart lights, wireless chargers, smart plugs and recently partnered with Sonos to release Wi-Fi-enabled smart speakers.

Rumours have also been circulating that Ikea plans to launch its own smart blinds.
