Apple advising iPhone 5 owners to update to iOS 10.3.4 by November 3

The update addresses the GPS time rollover issue that first popped up earlier this year

Apple says iPhone 5 owners must soon update to iOS 10.3.4 or their phones will lose certain functionality.

According to the tech giant, the update is needed to address the GPS time rollover issue that surfaced earlier this year. While the issue only affected GPS-enabled devices from other manufacturers, Apple says it will extend to the iPhone 5 by November 3rd.

The iOS 10.3.4 update will allow the iPhone 5 to maintain accurate GPS location and continue to enable functions that rely on correct date and time, such as the App Store, iCloud and email.

If the update isn’t downloaded by November 3rd, Apple says users will have to update by backing up and restoring their iPhone 5 using a Mac or PC. That’s because their phones won’t have access to over-the-air software updates and iCloud Backup.
