Sobeys launches online grocery home delivery in Vaughan, Ontario, rest of GTA coming soon

Customers can also place orders for products from Farm Boy and Well.ca

Sobeys has launched its online grocery home delivery service in Vaughan, Ontario and it will be available in the rest of the GTA in the coming weeks.

The service, which is called Voilà by Sobeys, delivers from an automated warehouse where robots assemble orders, after which employees will deliver them directly to the customer’s house with minimal handling.

Customers can order grocery essentials from Sobeys, along with products from Farm Boy and health wellness products from Well.ca Orders can be placed in one-hour delivery windows. Customers can order online or by downloading the Voilà app.

Voilà by Sobeys employees will be following recommendations set out by the Public Health Agency of Canada. This includes frequent cleaning and sanitization of warehouse and delivery vehicles and hygiene standards for all employees.

Delivery workers will wear masks upon arrival to homes and change gloves and sanitize in between each delivery and will follow physical distancing guidelines. All deliveries will be contactless, as orders will be left at customers’ doorstep or lobby.

Orders will be filled through an automated customer fulfillment centre in Vaughan, powered by Ocado Group’s technology.

Plans for Voila by Sobeys were announced last year. The fact that it has launched in the middle of a pandemic will likely boost sales as customers are looking for contactless ways to get groceries.

At capacity, Voilà by Sobeys will bring around 1,500 jobs to the area, including operations, delivery and customer service employees. There are also plans to bring Voilà par IGA to major cities in Quebec.
