Rogers, Bell and Telus introduce new COVID-19 vaccination policies

Proof of vaccination and rapid testing to become the norm at Canada's Big Three carriers

As of September 1st, all three of Canada’s largest telecommunication companies — Bell, Rogers, and Telus — have announced COVID-19 vaccination policies for their employees.

Rogers will require all its employees disclose their COVID-19 vaccination status by mid-September and be fully vaccinated by October 18th, according to an internal memo.

Rogers informed employees of this update to the company COVID-19 policy on August 23rd.

According to reporting from The Globe and Mail, Rogers employees who are unable or unwilling to get vaccinated will need to undergo regular COVID-19 rapid testing and wear masks while at work.

In the same week, Bell also announced it will require its employees be fully vaccinated. The new policy was shared with the public on LinkedIn by Bell President and CEO Mirko Bibic on August 24th.

In his post, Bibic states that all Bell employees must be fully vaccinated “in order to return to work or visit any Bell workplace this fall.”

On September 1st, Telus announced its own vaccination policy. In a press release, the company highlighted three key points:

First, anyone entering a Telus administrative building must be fully vaccinated starting October 1st.

Second, all customer-facing employees must be fully vaccinated by October 15th, or else be required to undergo COVID-19 rapid testing twice per week.

Third, fully vaccinated work-from-home employees will have the option to return to the office as of January 2022.

This news comes as a growing number of Canadian companies, schools and public institutions begin implementing vaccination policies.

In Quebec, the provincial government plans to roll out vaccination passports for citizens as of September 1st and is launching an app called VaxiCode. British Columbia is following suit with its own vaccine card website starting September 13th.
