Circana and the Entertainment Software Association of Canada (ESAC) have revealed the best-selling games in Canada for October 2024.
Read on for the full list. Note that digital game sales aren’t included for Nintendo games.
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC)
- Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero (PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC)
- Super Mario Party Jamboree (Nintendo Switch)
- NHL 25 (PS5, Xbox Series X/S)
- Silent Hill 2 (PS5)
- Dragon Age: The Veilguard (PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC)
- Metaphor: ReFantazio (PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC)
- EA Sports FC 25 (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, PC)
- Sonic X Shadow Generations (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, PC)
- The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom (Nintendo Switch)
Notably, some of these games are Canadian. First and foremost are the regular sports bestsellers, NHL 25 and EA Sports FC 25, which were both made by EA Vancouver. Then there’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, which was primarily developed by California-based Treyarch with the PC version being handled by Quebec City’s Beenox.
But perhaps most excited for Canadians is that we also have Dragon Age: The Veilguard from EA-owned BioWare Edmonton. After all, it’s the Canadian studio’s first brand-new game since 2019’s poorly received multiplayer shooter Anthem and its first new traditional single-player since 2014’s acclaimed Dragon Age: Inquisition. Thankfully, the reception for Veilguard has overall been positive, with many calling it a “return to form” for BioWare. It should also be noted that Veilguard launched on Halloween, so it remains to be seen how sales may have carried over into November.
On the whole, though, October’s top 10 list is about what you’d expect. Other games, including Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, Silent Hill 2, Metaphor: ReFantazio and Sonic x Shadow Generations, all released in October and charted here.
For context, here’s the U.S. top ten for October:
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
- Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero
- Silent Hill 2
- Undisputed (PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC)
- Metaphor: ReFantazio
- Dragon Age: The Veilguard
- Super Mario Party Jamboree
- Madden NFL 25 (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC)
- Sonic X Shadow Generations
- EA Sports FC 25
Notably, October, in particular, exemplifies something we’ve noticed since ESAC and Circana have been sharing this monthly Canadian data: Nintendo games tend to chart higher in Canada than in the U.S. Case in point: Super Mario Party Jamboree placed third in Canada versus only seventh in the U.S., while The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom (which came out in September) cracked our top ten but placed 12th on the American one. (ESAC’s data only tracks Canada’s top 10, while the U.S. data includes the top 20.)
It will be interesting to see November’s list of best-sellers. While many big new games that launched in October, November is comparatively a quieter month, especially given that Ubisoft Quebec’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows was delayed three months to February. Some of the higher-profile launches in November include Mario & Luigi Brothership, Lego Horizon Adventures, Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl.
