After taking my trip to hell, Costco, this morning, I went down to Toronto’s Eaton Centre mall to see what the carriers are offering on the streets. Usually, you can find better deals in stores than online, especially in malls, because the carriers are forced to compete directly with each other.
The best deal of the day I’d recommend to most is the $29 for 20GB of data bring your own device (BYOD) plan since this is a pretty cheap monthly cost, and most people likely won’t use more than 20GB in a single month. I saw this deal at Fido, Koodo and Virgin stores at the mall near me.
Freedom Mobile is also offering a solid deal on 50GB of Canada/U.S/Mexico data, which costs $35, but only for the first 18 months. After that, it will go up to $40 per month, but that’s still not a terrible deal in my eyes.
Fido also offered plans for $34 that came with 60GB of data if you need more data.
Bell and Rogers had the worst deals of the day, with 100GB plans for $50 and $55, respectively. Bell’s plan also includes a $100 prepaid credit card gift card.
Overall, there seemed to be a lot of decent deals out there, and while they haven’t fully transitioned to online yet, Virgin Plus, Fido and Koodo all offer a $39 plan that comes with 100GB of data which is also super good deal for anyone who needs a lot of data.
