While it’s been on and off the internet for many years, the horror hit 28 Days Later is coming to PVOD on Wednesday, December 18. It’s still unclear if it will hit any streaming services as well or if it will only be available to rent leading up to the release of 28 Years Later next summer.
This means you can rent or buy it from sites like Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and YouTube. However, as of the time of writing, it’s unclear how much the movie will retail for or in what resolutions. The movie was originally shot with Canon XL-1 cameras, which were from the early digital era of filmmaking and capped out at 720p. Therefore, it’s unclear if the new release has been remastered or upscaled in any way to accommodate modern televisions.
The movie was removed from streaming due to rights issues as it changed hands from its original producers, Fox Searchlight (now owned by Disney), to Sony when the company bought the rights to 28 Years Later and its potential sequels earlier this year.
That said, when searching for how to watch the film, it seems like the movie has been on and off streaming for years, with reports of people searching for it on Reddit going all the way back to 2022.
Thankfully, the film’s sequel, 28 Weeks Later, is a bit easier to access. It’s available to stream on Disney+ and available to buy or rent on several platforms, including Apple TV, Amazon, Cineplex and the Microsoft Store.
