The Last of Us Season 2 will officially premiere in April on HBO in the U.S. and Crave in Canada.
The release window was confirmed in a new trailer shown at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), although an exact date wasn’t specified. Check out the teaser below:
Those who have played The Last of Us Part II game upon which Season 2 is based will recognize a lot in the new footage. Most notably, it offers our first full look at Kaitlyn Dever’s Abby, a key character from the game whose story is intrinsically tied to Joel and Ellie’s. (To say more would be a big spoiler.)
Of course, we also get some glimpses at returning characters Joel (Pedro Pascal), Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and Tommy (Gabriel Luna), as well as Season 2 newcomers Isabela Merced (Ellie’s love interest Dina), Young Mazino (Ellie’s friend Jesse), and Jeffrey Wright (reprising his The Last of Us Part II role as a militant leader).
It should be noted that Season 2 of the series only adapts part of the The Last of Us sequel, given that it’s a much longer and more ambitious title than its predecessor. Therefore, HBO is planning at least one more season to fully cover the events of The Last of Us Part II.
It’s also worth noting that Season 2 was filmed in and around Vancouver versus Alberta for the first season. It remains to be seen what Pascal, Ramsey and the other cast and crew loved about shooting in B.C., given their noted love for Alberta.
In other PlayStation CES news, the gaming giant confirmed at the show that it’s developing movie adaptations of its Horizon and Helldivers franchises, as well as a Crunchyroll anime series based on Ghost of Tsushima. Details on plot synopses and casting weren’t confirmed.
