A new render from the YouTube channel Front Page Tech shows off a new iOS camera app design that is heavily inspired by visionOS.
This new camera app uses fogged, glassy panels with bevelled edges, similar to the look of visionOS on Apple’s Vision Pro headset. The leaker suggests that perhaps all of iOS 19 will be overhauled with this new design language.
While it would be cool to see Apple revamp iOS with a new look, this would be unexpected. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman previously reported that Apple had to postpone a few iOS 19 features as it works to finalize the already-announced Apple Intelligence features ahead of iOS 18.4, which is slated to launch in the spring.
Gurman’s report suggests that iOS 19’s key features will follow a similar release strategy compared to iOS 18, with significant features coming in 19.1, 19.2, and so on.
That said, Apple hasn’t overhauled the look of its mobile operating system since iOS 7 in 2013. That’s not to say iOS hasn’t undergone visual changes since then, but it still retains much of the design ethos of iOS 7. A large part of this is familiarity, and if Apple shifts the design significantly, it will likely face some backlash. The recent iOS Photos app is a good example of this. It debuted with a new design in 2024 and was met with lots of criticism.
It will also be interesting to see if Apple applies the same visonOS-inspired facelift to iPad and macOS. It would count as a major design win if the company could release all of its operating systems with the same design language at the same time, but it seems unlikely. For the last few years, Apple has kept a fairly hard line between iOS and iPadOS, with the iPad getting many major iOS features a year later.
