Canada and our southern neighbour have entered a trade war, as incoming U.S. President Donald Trump imposed tariffs on North American trade.
Effective on February 4th, the Canadian government is retaliating by implementing our own 25 percent tariffs on American goods. You can find the master list of items on the government’s website, but in the tech sphere, it includes home appliances, tools, vacuum cleaners, hair dryers, drones and more.
The Canadian and U.S. governments also have web pages dedicated to learning about the trade war and why it started. Both are interesting because they seem to have very different reasons at the heart of it. The U.S. is very worried about illegal immigrants and drugs, while Canada is operating out of retaliation.
The Canadian site also mentions that Canadians can help by buying local/Canadian goods.
Check out the Canadian government’s announcements on its press site or via social media.
