Telus-owned Koodo Mobile boosted its plans with new 5GB and 10GB bonus data promotions, copying Rogers-owned Fido.
The move comes after Koodo ended its Lunar New Year deals and increased prices. For Lunar New Year, Koodo offered 8GB of bonus data on two plans. Now, it has a 10GB bonus on one plan and a 5GB bonus on the other.
- $45/50GB + 10GB bonus data.
- $55/75GB + 5GB bonus data.
Both of Koodo’s plans include a $5/mo automatic payment discount and 4G data with speeds capped at up to 100Mbps. The plans include unlimited Canada-wide calling and texting, along with standard features like call display, voicemail, call waiting and more. Finally, Koodo customers can add one free perk to these plans. Options vary from plan to plan, but include perks like rollover data and unlimited international texting.

Notably, the bonus data only applies for bring-your-own-phone (BYOP) customers, and Koodo’s website says, “Some deals may be offered online exclusively,” suggesting the bonus data might not be available in stores. Also of note, the bonus data doesn’t currently list an expiry, a departure from Fido’s 24-month limit on the bonus data.
The bonus data will only be available for a limited time, though Koodo hasn’t shared an end date for the promotion.
Yesterday, Virgin Plus changed its plans, ditching its $55/mo plan entirely and replacing the $45/50GB plan with a $45/60GB offer. Unlike Fido and Koodo, Virgin’s plan doesn’t include bonus data at all.
While the bonus data on Koodo’s plans is welcome, the plans still aren’t great in the value department. Freedom Mobile and Public Mobile remain the value champs with their $39/60GB 5G Canada/U.S./Mexico plans.
